Founder

Jane started working in the insurance business when Ancora Insurance was established in 1995. Since then, she has worked in all areas in the company.

She gained enough knowledge and experience to contribute in a decisive way with her business partner and son, Felipe Costa, towards the new growth and modernization plan that started to be implemented in the company in 2002.

When her husband, Mr. Costa, decided to step down from management, Jane was promoted to the position of Administrative and Financial Manager without, however, neglecting the coordination and supervision of services related to the technical and commercial areas of the company.

Felipe started working in the insurance business when he was still a teenager, at the age of 14, in 1993, as an office assistant at Insurance Kingdom Inc. where his father, Jair Costa, worked as an insurance sales agent.

In 1995, with some experience in the insurance business, Felipe helped in the establishment of Ancora Insurance Agent, Inc. Two years later, he became one of the youngest licensed agents in the State of Florida.

In 1999 Felipe was promoted to General Manager Assistant. During that time he worked in all areas of the insurance business such as processor, document filer, vehicle inspector, underwriter and, among other things, maintained contact with the insurance companies represented by Ancora.

I was the founder of Ancora Insurance Agency in August 1995 in the city of Deerfield Beach, FL. And for fourteen years I was ahead of the company as President and General Manager.

This company was born from the need to provide the Latin American community, particularly the Brazilians in Southern Florida, good assistance in the area of insurance.

In July 2009 I transferred the administration to Felipe Costa, my young son who, since 2000, had accumulated the functions of Vice-President and Manager Assistant and today continues to manage the business as President.

Since then I'm living in Brazil on a small farm in Itabirito-MG, a town 45 km from Belo Horizonte-MG.

My history in the insurance market began in 1972 as an office assistant at Cia de Seguros Minas Brasil, passing by other large companies such as Cia Bamerindus Insurance (HSBC), South America Insurance Group and Cia Paulista Insurance (Liberty), among others, over the next fifteen years.

After living for almost 25 years in the United States of America and the condition of American Citizen, I find myself available in the job market again, not necessarily in the area of insurance. I also have good experience in international trade, having managed the company Via America, Trade & Consulting, Inc. in South Florida for three years.

What information do I need to provide to get a quote for my auto insurance?

You will need all drivers’ driver licenses or passports, the address where the car is located, and the car information (year, make, model, and VIN/chassis). We will need to know what coverage the customer wants. In case the client does not know, we can offer different options and clarify each coverage. To request a quote, contact us via phone, WhatsApp or email.

Can I take out insurance with a driver’s license from another country or an international license?

Yes! We represent several companies that accept foreign licenses and also international licenses. We also have a market for suspended/expired licenses, SR-22, SR-44 and passport only.

Depending on how I am going to use my vehicle, can this influence the value of my insurance?

There are several types of car insurance: personal, commercial, or for both purposes. For example, personal insurance only covers day-to-day use such as trips to the market, family trips, round trips to a fixed workplace, etc. Commercial insurance is broader. Each classification has its price, so the insured needs to be extremely precise when describing the type of work that will be done. For example, a customer who works in construction will be instructed to declare exactly the type of construction done (floor installation, painting, roofing, cleaning, etc.).

Will an app driver such as Uber or Lyft have to take out commercial insurance?

No, the insurance remains personal, but you will have to add to the policy the information that the vehicle is being used for transportation through the Uber and Lyft apps. For example, if you have more than one vehicle on the policy, it should be specified which car is being used for these apps.

Can I work with the Uber and Lyft apps with my current policy?

It depends on your insurer. Not all companies accept it, so the client must inform the broker before starting to use the apps.

If I drive less than 50 miles a day, can this influence the value of my insurance?

When it comes to personal insurance, some companies offer a device that measures how and how often you drive and could give you an extra discount. On the other hand, the rate does change depending on how many miles you normally drive. The longer the distance, the greater the risk and, therefore, the greater the value of the insurance.

Do I need to include my children in my insurance policy even if they are not going to drive?

It depends on the age of each one and on their insurer. Most companies require children or residents of the policy address over 15 years of age to be listed on the policy, even if they do not have a license and do not drive.

What is third-party coverage?

Third-party coverage is separated into two parts: third-party medical expenses and third-party property damage. Third-party medical expense coverage is aimed at the other person(s) involved in an accident with your car who have been injured by you. Third-party property coverage is not only aimed at third-party cars, but at any property that you damage in an accident. For example: if a car hits a “STOP” sign, the driver will be responsible for the damage to the sign, and this coverage will be used to pay for it.
